Feeling Lost in Life?
Have you ever had that nagging feeling of “What am I doing with my life?”. If YES, know that you’re not the only one. Millions of individuals search “What am I doing with my life?” on Google every month. Just because you’re feeling lost at this moment, it’s not a weakness; even if it may feel like it, it shows that you are ready for a change. You’re on a path that is no longer fitting you, whatever your core values or beliefs are. I’ve had the pleasure of working with countless intelligent and ambitious people during my career, and every person has had this moment of, “What am I doing?”, including me – and not just once. The stagnation you’re feeling isn’t an unmotivated life crisis. It’s a Soul Crisis. You’ve seen the blogs, podcasts, and reels saying “Find your passion!” “Set SMART goals!”, “Practice gratitude!”
And you did it. You truly tried. But the heaviness in your chest still hasn’t budged. The world feels muted. You’re going through the motions of a life that seems like it belongs to someone else. This isn’t a lack of ambition. It’s not a flaw in your personality. YOU ARE NOT BROKEN!
This is Soul Lag, what you are experiencing.
Your primal, eternal soul is screaming for a purpose it can feel in its bones, while your modern brain is locked up in a cage made of deadlines, algorithms, and highlight reels created just for you to view, to be consumed. The disconnect is immobilizing. Put away what you think you know. We are going underground. I am exposing the real, taboo reasons you are lost, and the taboo but powerful knowledge that actually powers the path forward. And yes, I know this is a totally different type of article than what you are used to reading from me but I think it’s time to share a different type of wisdom because Zalaxmi.com is about wisdom also.
The greatest lie society has perpetuated is the phrase “finding yourself,” is a soft, self-care journey. No, it is not. It is a metaphysical digging. You have to take apart the false identity, the “Personality Ethic,” you built, when you were a child ( in some cases were traumatised), when the need to belong emerged or when you were an adult and had to fit in – we all did it at some point. The “Personality Ethic” is, in fact a fiction. It does not have any genuine desire or credibility- except the one we give it, which is why achieving its goals is so empty. I recently read that clinical psychology labels this Cognitive Dissonance. Ancient Vedic practitioners called it Maya (illusion). It is the same conclusion: you are lost because you are living a lie, like a social hologram of yourself, and the soul has stopped cooperating with that, it does not resonate with it anymore.
Now that we have established this, let’s move to the 7 practical steps to find clarity, purpose, and life direction.
This isn’t a matter of adding more to your life. Unless, of course, you can find a way to link what you will be replacing the toxic parts with by creating a new operating system derived from neuroscience, quantum theory, and hermetic principles.
Step 1: The Mirror of Shadow (Not Light)
At some point or another, every self-help guru tells you to “visualize your best self.” That’s a good but incomplete exercise, hence useless. First, you have to face your Shadow Self – the repressed, denied, and shamed parts of you (a concept made famous by Carl Jung). Your way is hidden in what it is you have been running away from. Your anger, jealousy, and narcissistic tendencies are not shortcomings to eliminate. They comprise potential, unrealized power screaming for you to integrate them. The “dark” trait that prompts you to obsess? That’s raw focus. Your “manipulative” side? That is strategic influence.
An exercise to practice: For one week, do not judge a single negative thought. Notice it. Accept it. Ask the right question: “What deep need is this part of me trying to fulfil?” – NOTE IT DOWN.
Step 2: Deconstruct Your Cultural Manipulation
Your wants are not actually yours. They are implants from all types of social media, advertising, your family’s unmet dreams, etc. This is your Memetic Programming. If you want to establish a legitimate direction, you must perform what I like to call the ‘Belief Audit’. Take every one of your ‘shoulds’ (I should be married, I should want that promotion, I should be happy, I should be thin, I should have kids, I should…etc) and thoroughly analyse them until you examine where they came from. Who does the belief actually serve and from where did you get them? Are they really yours to begin with? This examination is a very important, like a subversive vehicle that will help sever the fictive cords that bind you to a fate not your own but induced.
Step 3: The Metaphysical Download ( aka Stop “Thinking”)
For the over-thinkers, this is excruciatingly difficult. The mind is not a very reliable compass for the soul; our minds are being altered daily by outside factors. Clarity does not lead to thinking harder, it comes from accessing a different type of intelligence. Ancient mystics accessed this through ritual and prayer. Contemporary neuroscience is uncovering many ways… daily practices, such as non-sleep deep rest (NSDR), or even breath work techniques like the physiological sigh, reduce beta brainwaves (thinking) and increase alpha/theta waves (receiving). This is where we are able to download information.
Do this practice: Before you check your phone each morning, spend 20 minutes in silent stillness. Don’t meditate “to relax” just stay still and listen, pay attention to your mind and body.
Step 4: Follow your Energy, Not the Logic
Somatic intelligence of your body is your oldest compass, and it does not lie. Our body during our life experiences is accumulating wisdom that we, in a conscious way, are not aware of. Society today values the mind and creates the Somatic Dissonance, where your body is screaming “no,” but your mind is rationalising and goes for the “yes.”
Exercise: Use the “Somatic Yes/No” test. When you are contemplating a path forward, close your eyes and verbalise the path. Notice the somatic, energetic feeling response in your body- what your body feels like and does?. Does your body feel an expansion, lightness, or flow (somatic YES) or does it feel like a contraction, heaviness, or dread (somatic NO)? Your body knows your true north long before your mind can navigate it.
Step 5: Ask yourself about how you want to be remembered, not just what you achieved.
This is not a cute or easy exercise. It is an exercise in confronting mortality and clarification. So don’t ask what you want to achieve. Instead ask yourself: “Who do I have to be to have a eulogy that would make my soul proud?” This will shift your review of the world from an external experience (an empty win) to an internal experience of character- back to you.. And so that means every decision becomes: “Does this decision contribute to the archetype of the man/woman I intend to be?”.
Step 6: Sacred Obsession vs Balanced Living
The “Work-Life Balance” is a trap for those destined to be mediocre, and for society, you are valuable and controllable when kept at the mediocre level, the “work-life balance” is a myth meant to distract you from being remarkable- notice that this concept has surfaced since the last years? The most impactful figures in history—artists, creators, mystics—were not balanced. They were obsessed with what they do or want to achieve. It has been recognized that to create a new world, you have to let go of the old one. Allow yourself to be fully taken by what excites your soul. Imbalance is where genius becomes manifest. In the darkness of your soul is where your light shines the brightest. You need darkness to see the light, and for that to happen, you have to accept the side of yourself and work with it.
Step 7: The Ritual of Embodiment
Clarity is a meaningless idea, unless reflected in a practice. Information without practice is entertainment. Create a daily, non-negotiable practice, whether it’s a 5-minute dance, a certain breath play, an affirmation said at a mirror, a scalloped V-shape on a page, anything that differentiates the you that you are from the you that is already clear. You don’t get what you want; you get what you are. This practice is the alchemy that transforms wanting into being.
Quick Exercise (Do It Now)
Grab a paper. Write down 3 things you would try if nobody judged you and failure didn’t matter. 👉 That list holds the seeds of your future clarity.
The feeling of being lost is not your enemy. It is the most important signal you will ever receive. It is your soul initiating you into a greater story.
THE QUESTION IS: ARE YOU READY? If the answer is yes, then I will accept being your coach and hold your hand through this journey.
This depth of transformation is rarely achieved alone. The ego is a cunning saboteur, expertly guiding you back to the familiar prison of your old self.
